This week in our nature study we are learning about nesting birds. To start we read Mama Built a Little Nest by Jennifer Ward. Then completed a bird anatomy and bird name worksheet, NEST letter sheet, looked at all different types of nests, practiced the letter N and ovals, and had a counting lesson with a cute egg set. We also built a little nest out of popsicle sticks, yarn and twigs.

After lunch we learned more about Robins. We read Nesting by Henry Cole and also a section in our Big Book of Birds by Yuval Zommer. Then practiced the letter R, completed a robin life cycle (@honeycombcabin) and had fun with bird stamps.

This morning for our bird study we learned about ducks! To start we read Ducks! By Gail Gibbons and Elliot completed some worksheets on the letter D and the word DUCK. We also studied the life cycle of a duck, looked at its anatomy and various types of ducks. We practiced numbers with little cutouts and Elliot enjoyed creating a pond scene with a paper duck play set I cut out and laminated. All the beautiful duck study materials are from @stephhathawaydesigns. Happy Friday!

Happy Tuesday! This week in our nature study the theme is a field trip but I wanted to teach Elliot more about birds, as we ease into Nesting Birds for next weeks study. So we started by reading A Place for Birds by Melissa Stewart and then practiced the letter B, colored a BIRDS letter sheet, completed a cut & paste worksheet, did some shadow matching, and practiced numbers with our count and clip cards (@sosimpleabeginning).We also looked at some birds in The Atlas of Amazing Birds by Matt Sewell, which is a gorgeous book, and Elliot had fun doing his birdseed activity (idea from @littlepinelearners) while we listened to many different bird sounds on my Merlin Bird ID app. The shadow matching worksheet is a new design from my bird unit which will be available to download for free this week! In the meantime, you can check out what I am offering now by visiting https://www.graystardesign.com/homeschool.
