I’ve always felt like there wasn’t enough time to do the things I need to do. Mostly because I am always thinking up ideas and my life just can’t keep up. But I am getting better at making the time. And now that Elliot starts preschool tomorrow, I will have a few mornings to myself to work, relax, and enjoy some me time. Being efficient is a big part of it as well and being a mom has truly helped me in that department. I use the minutes and hours I have the best I can and always stay productive. You have to make the moments yours and own them.

A little Sunday reminder that we must free ourselves when it comes to creating. Let it out, experiment, and don’t stop. Ever. Creativity is like the never-ending flame within us. While it burns, we are inspired, and ideas come to the surface. Live out those ideas and share them with the world. Make room for more.

When we CREATE, we grow and evolve into something greater. We learn lessons that make us smarter, sharper. We spread beauty and knowledge and expand our mental capacity. Creativity is an amazing thing and it lies inside each of us. You either explore it or you don’t, but to waste this gift is incredibly sad.

I don’t have much time to get crafty these days, but I do enjoy diving into fun projects with my son, Elliot. Of course, anything art is always a blast. But I find that I really enjoy constructing things most, whether it’s building with blocks, designing a track system for his trains, or creating a unique and wacky object with Tinkertoys. These are all things I loved as a child, as well as I got older, so it’s no surprise they are still of interest. I guess you can say I have always felt the need to ‘connect the dots’ in the world around me and create. Exploring this side of me through childhood is pretty damn awesome. And I feel very lucky to express my creativity with Elliot. I am learning to settle in those calm and inspiring moments where I can just be a kid again.

I’ve been slowly working on developing a new card series that reflects my love for poetry and it’s been a little challenging. From digging through years of writing to figuring out the best design direction, it’s been an interesting journey. Since it’s quite personal, I feel like I’m sharing a piece of my heart, while trying to create a platform for others to make an intimate connection with each other. It’s sort of the way I felt while I was working on my Reflection Series, but this is deeper.

Being an artist you really need to be brave and just dive in, even though you don’t know how others will react. But I have always felt safe in the creative place I am in while doing the work. As long as I’m being true to myself and creating art, I am exactly where I need to be. I hope to launch this series by spring, but until then I’ll be a busy bee piecing it all together.
