Today is all about frogs in our nature study. We read Starting Life: Frog by Claire Llewellyn and then completed a life cycle sheet (@magichomeschoolbus). We also did some green activities and practiced numbers with new count and clip cards (@sosimpleabeginning). Later we will explore a frogs anatomy.
After lunch we read a really cute book, Groundhog Stays Up Late by Margery Cuyler and then moved on to our candlemas projects. Elliot painted a fire with watercolors and twigs (@magichomeschoolbus) and we both rolled some beeswax candles for the first time. He did great rolling his and really wanted to include the little bees. The kit I bought is awesome and included a lot of little elements to add. Definitely something we both enjoyed.
It’s Groundhog Day! This morning Elliot and I learned all about these cute animals and this historic day. We read Groundhog Day! By Gail Gibbons and practiced the letter G and numbers. We also studied some words and facts about groundhogs with a lesson from @naturesupplyco and created our own little scene with a box and paper. Elliot drew grass and colored in the hole, as well as drawing the burrow with a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.
We also watched some cool videos of groundhogs digging and their high pitched scream. Later we are going to learn a little more about candlemas, another type of celebration on this day, and do a fun project.
Today we are keeping it pretty chill around here. But we decided to extend our pond study because Elliot wanted to learn more about frogs so here we are. Tomorrow we will explore this week’s theme but today and Friday frogs it is! So we read My First Book of Nature: The Frog to get started and then Elliot completed a few worksheets and did some count and clip cards with Daddy. After lunch we read The Frogs at the Rainbow’s End, a story in Fables by Arnold Lobel. Both books are from Dan’s childhood collection which I love. Looking forward to more frog studies and of course our new lessons tomorrow.
