For our nature study this morning we read A Tree is a Plant by Clyde Robert Bulla and learned a little more about bark from The Magic & Mystery of Trees by Jen Green. Then we had an art session and painted some bark from our yard. After lunch we learned more about how trees grow by reading It Starts with a Seed by Laura Knowles, which explains the process beautifully. Then we looked at different trees from the pine family in our new Smithsonian book Trees, Leaves, Flowers & Seeds and created little clay dishes stamped with needles. Can’t wait for these to dry. Elliot said he wanted to paint his and I might do the same.

It’s Winter Tree week! This morning Elliot and I read Winter Trees by Carole Gerber and he whizzed through a few seasonal themed worksheets and a fun sticker shape activity. Then we created a snow tree with twigs and a glue/shaving cream mix (@magichomeschoolbus). So cute! Trees are awesome and we are always excited to learn more about them.

This afternoon we learned about all the full moon names for each month from Full Moon Lore by Ellen Wahi and Elliot created his own night sky. I also used a moon chart by @the.silvan.reverie as a little guide.

This morning for our nature study we read Moon by Steve Tomecek and completed a mosaic project of the phases of the moon with a reference guide from @brighterdaypress. I used thick cardstock and dried beans and plan on keeping them for future lessons. Elliot also did a few worksheets to practice writing and counting. The moon is simply amazing and we love learning about it.
