How can you not have seen Willy Wonka? It’s just one of my all time favorite films, ever. The story is every kids dream, to visit a famous candy factory filled with tons of goodies. Although there was a remake, the 1971 original remains the best.

Based off of Roald Dahl’s book, the film tells the tale of five lucky children who each found a golden ticket in their Wonka Bars and have the opportunity to visit Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for a full tour as well as a lifetime supply of chocolate. Yes please! Each character is very different and their personalities are truly remarkable and entertaining.

Their journey brings much adventure, to say the least. They don’t know it but Wonka has set up a secret test for all of them and in the end, only one passes. Little Charlie Bucket wins the prize which is way more than he and his family could of ever imagined. A must see for every child, this film is not only fun to watch but shares lessons along the way.

The color palette is one of bright and many colors. Think of a rainbow multiplied a few times. From the costumes to the Oompa Loompas and beyond, color is one thing this film didn’t lack. It’s a good palette to get inspiration from when planning a children’s party, for sure. Willy Wonka rules!

Ever since I heard Bruno Mars’ voice I was hooked. It brought me back to the Michael Jackson days that I miss. His music also makes me happy, which I love. The upbeat songs to this album, Unorthodox Jukebox, always get me up and ready to move.

I like the neutral color palette that was chosen for the cover art as well. Earthy tones with a pop of color, a successful solution to most interior spaces. And who doesn’t love a furry gorilla?

How can you not love the comedic and cool characters of the Gorillaz. I always look forward to seeing what’s next. Their album, Demon Days, is a simplistic showcase of the four individuals seen through a tonal color palette. I love how all the colors are subdued but rich and how the hues they chose are close to each other on the color scale. I’ve picked my favorites for this palette.

I remember when I first saw Dick Tracy back in 1990. I was 11 years old and was in awe of the film’s use of color. As I got older I learned to appreciate it more and felt they did such a good job of keeping that comic book style. From the characters to the costumes, it was truly a success.

Based off the 1930s comic, the story takes place in the city and revolves around a group of gangsters and of course Dick Tracy saving the day. Warren Beatty produced, directed, and starred in the film and had strong intentions for its design. Sticking close to the comic he wanted to only use the colors that graced the original pages while focusing on red, green, blue, and yellow. There was also a concentration on how the scenes were filmed so each were more like vignettes with everything happening in the same shot, this meant the camera was still for most of the movie.

The palette of Dick Tracy is elementary in some aspects but in this case, that’s a good thing. For me, it was one of the first on screen presentations that featured successful artistic development. Even if I was too young at the time to delve into its creative elements, I noticed how unique it was. It really felt like the comic book had come to life.
