Our official nature study this week is Christmas/Winter Plants and we started with conifer trees.

  • read Winter Trees by Carole Gerber
  • learned about conifer trees in our forest journal by @raising_up_wild_things and also completed a color sheet

After our lessons we visited my mom and found some cool things for our nature box. Looking forward to some fun projects this week and learning more about winter plants.

We decided to extend our weather study an additional week so here we are. Today we learned about storms.

  • read Flash, Crash, Rumble, and Roll by Franklin M. Branley
  • painted a stormy scene with watercolors
  • completed a temperature worksheet by @habitatschoolhouse
  • practiced letters and numbers with a few other worksheets

We are also diving into this weeks theme as well – Christmas Plants! So I plan on starting with winter trees this afternoon.

Happy December 1st! As we ease into the holiday season I remind myself that life is what you make of it. This is not a dreary time, despite what is happening in the world. Staying positive and creating your own happiness is key. And there is no better time than now to be grateful and spread kindness.

I am going to enjoy this last month of 2020 and make it a good one. Not just for me but for Elliot too. I will continue to avoid drama, negativity and bullshit because my mental health is way more important. I promise to take care of myself like I do everyone else. And as always, I will keep moving forward and live my truth. Hope you all can make the best out of the next few weeks and end 2020 with your heads up and hearts full.

Still learning about weather over here and there is so much to do! Today we focused on clouds and wind.

  • used the book Clouds by Mary Meinking and beautiful cards by @the.hidden.way as reference
  • colored letter pages for CLOUDY and WINDY and pasted them in our nature journal, along with drawing a picture that matched and cut/paste illustrations from @magichomeschoolbus
  • made our own cards with cotton balls from @magichomeschoolbus showing the 3 main types of clouds
  • watched a video about all types of weather from Kids Learning Videos and another about floods from Peekaboo Kidz

We also completed a few worksheets to practice numbers and letters. After lunch we will do a few more things on my list.
