I love nature and plants so when I bought my first home I was surely excited to create my first garden. Being someone who also loves animals, how could I not design an environment that invites all the lovely little creatures to play. When I first started looking for flowers and plants for my garden, I made sure I chose ones that attracted butterflies and included my bird bath so the birdies can play as well.

Here are some great tips from Better Homes and Gardens on how to invite little lovelies to your garden and what plants to pick that will lure them to explore. You may even have some who call your backyard home and in that case, yourself a big pat on the back. It’s such a great feeling to be surrounded by nature’s creations and with these next few tips you will be there in no time.

Butterfly Heaven: Invite butterflies to come and play with colorful beauties such as cosmos, zinnia, black-eyed Susan and butterfly bush. By creating a corner garden you can watch as they all explore your playground of goodies.

Easy Peasy: If foliage is more your style instead of flowers, then give this garden a try. Not only is it easy to care for, it will look great during the fall and winter seasons as well.  Make sure to include purple coneflower, sedum, and iris to bring all the birdies to your yard.

Wild and Free: If you love plants that have a sense of free spirit and wild flair then planting native grasses and wildflowers is right up your alley. Birds and butterflies love these and how could they not? Including them in your garden adds a touch of whimsy and fun that all those tiny critters love.

Small Spaces: Even if you only have a few feet of space for your garden, you can create a haven for happy creatures. With plants like bee balm, sedum, and butterfly bush your wildlife sanctuary can be born.

In Love with Butterflies: If you adore butterflies then these next plants will bring you tons of happy. The bed of the garden attracts them while all the blooms offer nectar. To nourish the larvae include leafy plants such as parsley to give them what they love. Thrown in a few rocks for the butterflies to catch some rays and a birdbath for everyone to take a water break.

I have always loved seeing makeovers. Whether it was for a person or a home, they never cease to amaze me when they are done right. Since Dan and I are new homeowners we know how much work a house needs and because we have done it all ourselves so far, we can stand back and be even prouder.

I came across some great makeovers today seen on Better Homes and Gardens and thought they were good inspirations for anyone who is planning to renovate or give the exterior of their home a facelift. I wish you lots of luck and patience if you are doing so! But it is worth it in the end to create something that represents your style and allows you to feel comfortable and at home. Enjoy!

I came across Raw Materials Design and fell in love. Here are a few reasons why.

1. All their products are made and sourced in the United States.
2. The shop is descended from four generations.
3. Everything is handmade by skilled craftsmen.
4. All items are made from 100% cotton.
5. It’s said their products will last a lifetime.
6. All the products have a unique raw style suitable for every home.

Raw Materials Design

This shop is awesome. Plain and simple. They offer aprons, linens, and a few home good items that are all made extremely well as well as look beautiful. I happen to love the handmade feel so I can appreciate the design element the stitching brings to the pieces. Because its blue and red, each item carries that Americana feel from the old days. Just enough detail to add style without being over the top.

The shop has been mentioned in a variety of media from Better Homes and Gardens and Whole Living Magazine to the Today Show and deserves every bit of it. A company that stands on value, tradition, and supporting hardworking men and women, is a company I like to give business to. And the fact that everything is sourced and made in America is a huge bonus.

So here is a little introduction to their items. Hope you all love them as much as I do.

Chalky Pastels

In the May issue of Better Homes & Gardens they feature chalky pastels and include some tips on how to use them. Being a lover of pastels I had to share these pretty colors. Soft and cheery are great words to describe them for they bring a touch of happy to any space.

Using them on the walls will make a room seem larger so painting a small space a lighter hue is a great idea, if thats what you’re going for. Painting a ceiling will do the same. Accessories that showcase springs beautiful colors help brighten up a space so touches of pretty pastels here and there create a flow of sunshine.

Here are some examples of using pastels successfully. Hope they inspire you to bring spring closer to home. Surrounding yourself with happy colors makes all the difference.
