The sun is shining and it’s a beautiful day. Lately I’ve felt the weather shift a bit and I’m enjoying the cool breezes and crisp air. Autumn is upon us and I’m not complaining. Our veggie garden is still thriving but needs more care. The tomatoes are the only plants producing less but we got soooo many these last few months that I’ve been able to share with others. The cucumbers and peppers are going strong and the green beans aren’t done yet. Plus, we have lots of lettuce to pick and new plants starting to grow, including spinach. This is my happy place. Our garden gives me peace and allows me to be productive while relaxing AND it’s just so gratifying. This process is a life lesson we all need to be reminded of: If you work hard, have patience and put love into something it will flourish and give you many gifts. This applies to everything. And I’ve truly lived it with my business. I put in the time, the love, and the most work I’ve ever done to grow Gray Star Design, sacrificing many things along the way. And it’s all paid off. I am in the midst of rebranding the biz and giving my website a full makeover, which is long overdue. I am restructuring my services and excited to offer new packages. Looking forward to sharing it all with you soon! For now, I am enjoying this view and ready to take on the day. Wishing you all an amazing Thursday.

This past week I worked my ass off to finish a new website for Andrea and Lee of Shift Happens Consulting and I am so happy with how it turned out. The bonus: they love it too! Andi was referred to me by another fave client Patti Green and we hit it off right away. I helped her with a new program and after some discussion we moved forward with a full rebrand and web build. There was a deadline to switch platforms so I was in robot mode for sure 😂 But we did it. Now Shift Happens has a fresh new modern look and a home where all their awesome courses and services are offered. I just love working with them and truly feel inspired by the work they do. Their message resonates with me and it’s just really cool to team up with clients that are making the world a better place. I’m looking forward to future projects with these two and can’t wait to see what they create next. You can check out the site and learn more about them at shifthappensconsulting.com.

A fun project I worked on with @pattigreenhealthyliving to help kids learn more about other countries. The Passport to the World club features 6 countries and includes all types of information along with recipes for families to try. This is a sneak peek of Mexico. I was excited to team up with Patti on this and bring her project back to life. I am sure the kids will love it!

Life isn’t a competition. We all have unique talents and personalities and that’s what separates us from everyone else. When it comes to the design field, I’ve never felt I needed to be better than anyone else or that anyone was better than me. But at the same time I accepted that some could do certain things better than I could and that was fine. Still is. Artists are all on the same team and we should always support each other. We have a special job to do and that’s to bring more beauty to the world. We should not be competing with each other.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That being said – we must also know what it is that helps us stand out among the rest. Because we want to show potential clients how good we are at what we do and grow our business. It’s smart to focus on your best skills and market those the most so people who need those type of services can pick you out faster. And this allows for more experience, which in turn helps you to bloom even more beautifully.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s always been hard for me to choose a niche in the arts because I love to do so much in the field. Even when I was studying design I had a hard time deciding my major. It took me awhile but I finally graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design. This allowed me to take a bunch of fine art classes to strengthen my drawing and painting skills while also gaining knowledge in graphic arts and photography. I saw it as the best of both worlds. And even though I focus on marketing and branding, having the history of illustration, photography and creative writing on my side I find it’s very beneficial to my business to have a well rounded education in the arts. Not to mention, decades of professional experience in the design field. And this, plus my personality and work ethic, is what makes me stand out from the rest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So if your business needs an upgrade or you’re starting out fresh and you’re looking for a designer who is experienced, efficient, and easy to work with then contact me today and we can chat.
