This morning Elliot learned about stars and constellations. We read Our Stars by Anne Rockwell and then completed a connect the stars worksheet and he made his own constellation. We also used these beautiful reference cards by @raising_up_wild_things. Later I have a fun project planned as we explore this topic some more.
This morning we read a super cute book, Now It Is Winter by Eileen Spinelli and continued with our winter sky study. Elliot colored various types of snowflakes (@raising_up_wild_things), cut them out and pasted them in our nature journal. We also looked at snowflake shapes in Nature Anatomy by Julia Rothman. Then Elliot completed some winter themed worksheets for number and letter practice.
After lunch we had a nice time with friends and enjoyed a somewhat brief nature walk. After our visit we cuddled up with a snack and read Arctic White by Danna Smith. The story explores color in a cold white world, the Northern Lights! Elliot then painted his version with watercolors.
Today Elliot and I started our nature study with It’s Snowing! by Gail Gibbons and learned about the weather of the season. This week our focus is the winter sky. After working on letters and numbers we had a watercolor art session. Elliot painted one where it was raining and a second piece of the sunset, which is what I was painting. We had a photo I took last night as reference. I bought some new art supplies and looking forward to using them in the fun projects I have planned for this week.
