I was contacted by Jessica back in February of 2013 to design her and Ken’s save the dates. They were planning a Martha’s Vineyard wedding that September and it all sounded so exciting! The island was a special spot for these two lovebirds, as they frequently visited for vacation and it was the place they got engaged. I love the New England area so all the details Jessica was sharing sounded really beautiful and right up my alley.
They chose my Vintage Whale save the date which set the tone for the nautical inspired event. It was actually the customized version I created for them that I eventually fell in love with, so this is what I sell today. Thanks Jess! We both got along so well and found we have a lot in common so it was such a pleasure working with her. She also hired me to design her brother’s fiancé bridal shower invites, her sister’s save the dates and engagement party invites, as well as her holiday cards, which was a lot of fun. Again, for her sister’s party I created custom invites and wound up loving it so much, you can now find it in my shop. I call it Whimsical Harvest.
So, May came around and we started working on the invitations for the wedding. What a journey that was. She really wanted beautiful paper so I sampled a few different types and we both decided on this gorgeous handmade paper with deckled edges by Green Field Paper Company. It was tricky to work with as far as printing but the invitations turned out amazing. They included a postcard rsvp, custom map of the events on the island, and reception card, all tied up with twine and a small tag with their initials. They chose recycled brown envelopes and kraft paper for the tag to bring in that rustic feel. I was so happy when Jessica told me she got tons of compliments.

I also designed most of the wedding decor. The menus were rustic and listed local food, the programs and setting cards were navy on white and showcased the clean, nautical style they love, and the welcome guide I created for all their guests included the vintage whale from the save the dates and tons of information of what to do and where to go during the event weekend. Their thank you cards were simple and classic, you can find them in my shop.

The ceremony was held at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Edgartown and the reception followed at Hooked in Oak Bluffs where everyone enjoyed cocktails and local, fresh cuisine. The newlyweds took a slice from a gorgeous cake made by Val Cakes and danced the night away with all the people they loved. What a day it was.

I am so happy their day was amazing. Not that I thought it wouldn’t be. Finally seeing the photos from that weekend really made me smile. It all came together perfectly and they both looked stunning. I love how they brought rustic elements into the nautical, classic setting, it was all really beautiful. And they just look so happy. I am sure it was a day they will never forget. Here is a little peek, enjoy! All photographs were taking by the talented Lindsey Thorne.
