We are continuing fungus week with some awesome books and projects:

  • looked at our mold project and recorded our findings
  • we learned about different varieties of mushrooms with Nature Anatomy by Julia Rothman
  • Elliot drew some of his favorites in our nature journal
  • practiced the letter M with some fun worksheets
  • started reading The Mushroom Fan Club by Elise Gravel and learned about all different kinds of mushrooms
  • watched a short time lapse video of mold growing created by the BBC
  • completed a coloring page in our Forest Journal by @raising_up_wild_things
  • read A Log’s Life by Wendy Pfeffer

We also met some friends at the park and played for almost 2 hours. It was a productive day for sure.

We started fungus week with some fun projects and lessons. I was also able to find some mushrooms from our yard for us to study, along with a few dried specimens we had from the spring.

  • we learned the parts of a mushroom from the book Molds, Mushrooms & Other Fungi by Steve Parker
  • drew a mushroom in our nature journal and labeled the parts
  • watched a short video from National Geographic, You Didn’t Know Mushrooms Could Do All This, and learned the growth process and so many cool things you can make with mushrooms
  • completed a cut and paste exercise and created a pattern with a mushroom template from printabletreats.com
  • read the poem The Elf and The Dormouse by Oliver Herford
  • checked our fungus project I put together Sunday to see if any mold grew yet, it didn’t

Took a break, a nap, had some lunch and then dove back into our lessons…

  • Spent some time outside for fresh air and explored the yard for mushrooms
  • Read Mushrooms in the Rain by Mirra Ginsburg
  • practiced numbers with my first official lesson design, Mushroom Math
  • made the cutest little mushrooms from egg carton pieces I got from @magichomeschoolbus

We also practiced the letter F and opposites with some fun worksheets. Besides having a headache all day and Elliot having about 3 tantrums, we checked a lot off our list and had a good day.

We officially dove into this weeks nature study today, Pumpkins! Over the weekend we carved a silly pumpkin so that was sort of when we started. Today, Elliot and I did a bunch of fun projects and practiced letters and numbers with pumpkin inspired lessons.

  • we read The Pumpkin Fair by Eve Bunting
  • painted a watercolor pumpkin
  • practiced numbers and writing the letter P with worksheets from @lively.little.home
  • created a mosaic P with pumpkin seeds
  • made little pumpkins with air dry clay

It was a busy fun filled day! We also enjoyed being outside just when the sun came out, had a numbers lesson and played a new matching game. A nice way to start the week.
