I was in CT when I took this photo. I loved how this area was all green, even the building has vines and moss growing on it. Although it was a little damp and dreary, the Earthiness of the scene inspired me. These neutral colors are some of my favorite of them all.

It made me think of a space I could have in my home one day. Somewhat like a conservatory room, with plants and moss covered urns. Lots of vintage clay pots and a few comfy soft chairs. A perfect place to enjoy being with nature and reading a book. I hope to convert our porch into this Earthy escape one day. Until then, a girl can dream, can’t she?

This is another great shot from my visit to Sleepy Hollow, NY. Besides the colonial style building, I fell in love with the texture and color of its door. Appearing strong and somewhat medieval, this entrance simply leads to the inside of the home. But what can you imagine it leading to? A different realm of unconsciousness, a fantasy world of endless farmland and evergreen forests. If you use your imagination, anything is possible. Wouldn’t it be cool if this was the front door to your home? I would love that!

If you look at the image as a whole, you will notice the neutral yet beautiful color palette of earthy tones and calm hues. It’s a perfect inspiration for interiors as well as events such as weddings. See the color palette I created to help lead you in the right direction.

What brought me to Belgium artist Aileen Leijten was her felt creations. Her etsy shop, Felt Forest, is filled with nature inspired felt items that are fun and whimsy. As I looked around her shop I came across her children illustrations and I couldn’t resist using a piece for a palette.

A Waldorf graduate, Aileen also writes and illustrates children’s books. Bella & Bean and Hugging Hour are a few you can find on her website, which is cleverly designed and so much fun. Here is where you can also learn all about her exciting career  working with big time companies as well as the many awards her animations have won. Lets just say she has a lot of tricks up her sleeve. Or in this case maybe we should say talents because she clearly represents a wide range of skills.

Now living in Brooklyn with her husband and children she focuses on children’s books while selling her little treasures in her etsy shop. I highly suggest you roam around Aileen’s world of art for there is so much to discover.

The piece I chose for the palette spoke to me in a number of ways. The color scheme is mild and pale with shading and detail to die for and the composition as a whole is genius. Her characters are so unique you just want to see more. Look to her work for neutral palettes with a lot of dimension. They translate well to interior spaces and parties.

I am happy to share my new little addition to the blog, my color palettes inspired by the things I love. The first is Art Inspired Color Palettes but there will be more coming soon. You can access the palettes from the menu on the right. Each week I plan to post at least two so come back and check in often. To introduce each one, I will add a new post with a little about each artist. Hope you all can find inspiration in what inspires me.

The first addition!

Paola is an artist from Cordoba, Argentina. You can find her illustrations in her Etsy shop, Holli. I am drawn to her delicate lines and soft palette of color. Her work is whimsy, childlike and simply beautiful. Look to her drawings when planning a wedding, bridal or baby shower and parties for children.
