I’ve always loved books and reading and have collected quite a few over the years despite moving a ton of times. Yep, those heavy boxes came with me. Mostly art books but a mix of others as well. (I have always wanted to work in a library or book store) So it’s no surprise we would have a large growing library for Elliot. Where do you keep your books around the house?

We have them everywhere but a few main areas store most. Elliot’s room has two bookshelves, the tall one is mostly filled with various stories and the other has a mix of books and toys. There they are grouped by winter/Christmas, little golden books, and board books he doesn’t want to part with yet. Then we have the two shelves in the playroom (which is where we also do lessons) that have our study books. I also keep some in the studio for him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I also utilize the resources at the library and come out with a bag full or more each week and usually check out the thrift section for new ones. You can’t beat paying 10 cents for a book! We love our local library 😊 I always say you can’t have enough books. And I am honored to share the love I have for stories, learning, and reading with Elliot. It’s something that will enrich his life for years to come.

I read about 5 books a day with our son Elliot every night and visit the library each week to take out a huge stack for us. I really love our bedtime reading routine. Every now and then we will come across a book that we both are impressed it, whether it’s the art or the story. The other night we looked through Imagine a Place and both were in awe of the paintings. They really stirred up Elliot’s imagination and that’s what I hope to do. He’s never seen art like this and he was definitely interested. Artist Rob Gonsalves is a new fave now. And magic realism? Yes, please. Here are a few from the book we loved.

When it comes to seasonal decorating everyone wants a stylish and sleek look, not the usual commercial over the top presentation. Here are few ideas you can try during this holiday season.

If you always put your decorations in the same place then why not rearrange things. It’s fun and  won’t cost you anything.

Instead of having the traditional Christmas tree why not use books to make one. It really is easy and more modern. Just pile on layers of books making the piles smaller length wise on top. Once you have accomplished this, then wrap Christmas lights around it.

Cut bits of tinsel and tie it on chairs at home. If you have a floor lamp then use that for Christmas décor too.

Use warm colors in your home. This does not mean you have to redecorate everything, just tiny adjustments will enhance your room and give it a seasonal effect. Instead of new carpet or flooring add a rug that will compliment the color of your floor.

If you’ve run out of room because there is too much décor, try taking extra ornaments and hang them on interior curtain poles.

Create a display for all your Christmas cards. Stick a piece of string on one of your walls and hang the cards on them rather than causing clutter.

Pick up leaves or cut out snowflakes and put them in glass frames and display them around the house.

Take an old jar and put fake snow inside of it to create a holiday globe. Include a festive icon such as a snowman or a christmas tree and you’ve created a wonderful decoration.

When you have finished snuggle up with a cosy blanket, light some candles and enjoy your Christmas.
