The California band, Moving Units was formed in 2001 and released their first EP a year later. Having a unique dance-punk sound, they have toured with numerous bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Hot Hot Heat, Blur, and the Pixies to name a few. I was introduced to them by a good friend In Jersey around the time their full length album, Dangerous Dreams, came out. I was a fan instantly.

The album is full of catchy guitar riffs and dance driven bass lines with a perfect side of drum beats. If it doesn’t get you up and moving, than I don’t know what will. The production of the album is great as well. Everything is super clear and in focus, a real nice sound. I must admit Between Us & Them is my favorite track but some others I really dig are Going for Adds, Anyone, Scars, and Turn Away. However, all the songs are really good. Perfect music for a party.

The album artwork and its color palette matches the tone of the album perfectly. Bright colors partnered with gray undertones. The band has such a fresh sound and these neon hues accent it nicely. I also like how the illustration plays on movement, which gives it more interest.

Four tet has been a favorite of mine for years. With a mix of hip hop, electronic, jazz, and more, London artist Kieran Hebden brings such a unique style to the industry. Starting out as a member of the band Fridge, he later explored music on his own and released his first single in 1997. While continuing with his solo career he also has worked with talented and well known musicians such as Aphex Twin, Bloc Party, Black Sabbath, and Thom Yorke to name a few.

His fourth album, Everything Ecstatic came out in 2005 and is filled with quirky mixes and smart beats. It has a high energy sound and happy youthful vibe. It makes for good driving music as well as a background tunes for a party. The six song on the album, And Then Patterns, is particularly one I love. It has such a beautiful mix of instruments and just flows so nicely. Another favorite, Turtle Turtle Up, brings you back to the Nintendo days with elegance.

The album art is vibrant and colorful, like the music it presents. Although the line work seems a little out of control and ecstatic, the design makes sense. Due to the hues chosen for the work, it has an adolescent feel but its fresh and unique at the same time.  All in all, its fun.

I started listening to Beat Strings back in 2006 when this album came out. There was just something about their music that made me happy. It was uplifting and dynamic, and in many colorfully created. The album cover was a great first impression as well.

With its saturated hues and delicious texture, the artwork pops right off the page and hooks you in. From the blue skies to the red and pink sea, the colors seem to blend into each other like their melting. With a painterly style and comedic feel, it brings a nice introduction of what is to come. An album will with poppy sounds that will make you smile.

Baroness is up again. How can I not include all their albums in these palettes? Each one is awesome. Yellow and Green is very earthy with its textured browns and golden yellows. A few pops of color help the neutrals bounce a bit as well. And as strange as the artwork seems, what beautiful line work and shading Baizley presents us. Such a super skilled and unique artist.

These soft hues are great for any interior space you want to relax in. Would be nice used in a kitchen to brighten up the space for a cheery feel or even a children’s room or bedroom for a calming, and nature inspired look.
