This week my good friends over at Night Owl Paper Goods shared with me a new collection they are offering and its really is something beautiful. They teamed up with mixed media artist, Dolan Geiman, and created a truly unique collection of paper goods, wood calendars, and notebooks. It makes sense that these two would collaborate since the earth and nature are on top of both their inspiration lists. With a passion for the environment, as well as floral and fauna motifs and modern-yet-folksy style, you can see how they can easily create a magical line of products together.

Geiman’s work is highly influenced by the outdoors and mixed with southern style, which is clearly shown through his folk creations. He is a trained artist in printmaking and sculpture and has a wide range of mediums from painting and collage to 3-D assemblage. You might have seen his work featured in various media like Fossil, Anthropologie, Pendleton and more. He is an advocate for green design and business and currently works in Chicago with his wife but was born and raised in Virginia. I highly recommend you check out his work, its beautiful.

The big debut was this week at the National Stationary Show in NYC from May 18 to today and I am sure it was a big hit. Here is a little peek into the collection. Enjoy!

Invite Inspirations

Usually when planning a wedding, you figure out your theme and color palette before sending out invitations, which is the best way to do it. Well, I teamed up with Wedding Paper Divas to create some colorful inspiration from a few of their wedding invitation designs. So working backwards for a moment, take a look into some beautiful invites I’ve chosen to feature and hopefully they can spark many great ideas for your own event.

{You can click on each palette to visit that particular design}

I love the rich blues and greens in this design. They are balanced with vintage neutrals of creams and browns and accented with lighter tones. The design as a whole is soft, feminine and artsy. A great inspiration for a wedding or any event.

This color palette is fun and whimsy without being too childlike. The dark gray is a beautiful backdrop for spring’s soft peachy tones and with touches of mustard and white, the design stays fresh and modern.

Although this palette is simple, its strong and to the point. You can take these three colors anywhere and it would be successful. The style of the invite is somewhat traditional in its text but the layout of the design is fun and cleverly organized. Mixing hard lines and flowy elements always work nicely if done right, balance is key here. The muted blue, rich brown and faded beige make a perfect trio of color inspiration.

I couldn’t resist featuring this design. The colors pop and immediately scream “happy” which is appropriate for a wedding invite, for sure. The soft watercolor illustrations present the bright color palette beautifully. With different tones of pink and yellow layered like a piece of art, they really make an impression. The gray text helps balance out the design and give it weight and focus. This is a brilliant palette for a wedding.

Not everyone loves nautical style but I certainly do. With different shades of blue that are reminiscent of the open sea and pops of red and white, this design is truly successful. You can create a beautiful ombre effect with these colors and even bring in some creams that would really make it come alive. So if red isn’t your color of choice, you can pick any other color and it would work.

Festival Favorites

Yesterday I was in awe as I looked through the fourth issue of Mag Rouge. What a beautiful collection of festival goodness, nature inspired weddings and stunning florals. If you are planning a wedding then Mag Rouge is a great resource for inspiration as it never lets you down.

With the collaboration of Kate, Jasmine, Hannah and Judit, this production is a well designed mag with unique inspiration, awesome resources and superb wedding submissions. This team of highly talented women are some of the best in the industry I have seen, and I look at a lot of wedding material and websites. It’s not often I get impressed with events or ideas but every time I open the new issue of Mag Rouge, I get inspired. Here are my favorites from the current edition. I hope you love them as much as I do.

This next event was held at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, the wedding of Jane and Steve. I fell in love with their vast array of pastels and amazing location. It seems they had the most wonderful weather as well. What a stunning event.

Besides a lot of other things I love about this next Australian wedding, the bride and groom showed a sense of endearment for the Earth and made sure this event reflected who they both were.

My favorite thing about this next formal California wedding is how they used the black in their decor. Besides showing a timeless elegance, the pops of the dark hues played off the white and pastel florals nicely creating a dramatic yet not overdone look.

I adore this Mag Rouge shoot filled with ideas on how to use fabric in your event. Nice inspiration for colors and styling as well.
