Bedrooms are our reserved refuges where we hideaway to every night and get away with the worries of the world outside. Throughout our lives, they are the cozy and private spaces where we first experienced to sleep by ourselves, where we first learned not to sleep forlorn, where we penned our inmost thoughts and concealed them underneath the mattress, where it was acceptable to cater to ourselves flamboyantly and where we all perhaps made our first decisions on design.

Beyond bed skirts and bolsters, see how great design decisions turn into great design ideas. Some even take it to the next level and make a point that they have personalized their rooms thoroughly. Change is inevitable and with comes those people who would like to have their rooms customized similar to their friends. Others have come up with a peculiar taste.

Listed below are some of the weirdest bedroom ideas that have been prevalent these days. They have surfaced the internet and made great noises. We hope you will be amazed by the following and consequently, come out with your own exceptional bedroom concepts.

Old Wine Barrels
A hotel concept that included restored wine barrels might seem bizarre wherever in the world but not in the Netherlands. They always welcome outrageous or odd ideas. As a result, a brilliant De Vrouwe van Stavoren hotel was built from old wine barrels from Switzerland. They were brought to the Netherlands, then rinsed and transformed into hotel rooms.

Waterbed
A waterbed is not as simple as you think it is. This next idea has added a new meaning to the word. This is not recommended to anyone that sleepwalks for sure! It may appear a little icy and very hazardous if you go home drunk and if you cannot swim, than this is certainly not a great idea. However, this is perhaps the coolest bedroom we have ever witnessed!

Sandwich Bed
It truly stinks to climb out of bed and walk across the cold floor just to satiate your hunger in the middle of the night. Why not save yourself and turn your room into your personal diner?  This sandwich bed will really provide you with sweet dreams.

Nautilus Undersea Suite
It is just so magical, transcendent and inimitably fascinating to live under the sea. This might have been the motivation of the person who developed a Nautilus Undersea Suite, which is located at The Poseidon Resort in Fiji. It can be found 40 feet under water.

Feel Seating System – Animi Causa
Animi Causa designed the Feel Seating System which has a cool and strange shape. It has a molecular structure which is the basic block for all things around us. It consists of 120 sofa balls enclosed in elastic fabric which enables you to feel comfortable and relaxed. Since the design allows you to make various forms, you can utilize it in a number of imaginative ways.

Since my husband and I are on our honeymoon in Prince Edward Island I wanted to showcase a photo from our trip. There is so much beauty to capture here, it’s amazing. Everywhere you look there are endless fields, rolling hills and lots of trees. Not to mention the cows, horses, sheep and other animals that call this island home. PEI is nature at its best.

I chose this photo because it was truly an amazing experience for me. Standing on the tip of the island in Cavendish, I looked beyond the ocean and was transported to a world far far away. To see the Earth meet the water in such a remarkable way was not only inspiring but memorizing as well. You have no choice but to put the life as you know it in perspective and be thankful for our planet. Earth is such a gorgeous place and we are all lucky to be here.

I am so thankful and appreciative for being able to visit Prince Edward Island and capture all the magnificent views and peaceful surroundings. This place is surely a dream. The more I see, I am taken back and astounded that a place like this exists. You certainly feel like you are in a storybook, it’s very unreal. I am so happy we chose to come here for our honeymoon. It is an experience we will both never forget.

Located on Lakeview Road in Bellmore, NY, the Baldwin-Southard cemetery is connected to Mill Pond. Not too far from Sunrise Highway and right off Bellmore Ave. I found this historic burial ground to be peaceful and somewhat void. What a difference it must be from the past. Considering the surrounding area used to be a private farm and Lakeview used to be Mill Road. These days houses and cars fill up the street, yet it still has a sense of tranquility.

Upon walking into the park, a welcome sign greeted me with history of the former farm. It stated the owners were John and Ann Southard and it is likely the cemetery was on their farm located in the back corner. The only stone that remained was for a young girl named Lucy Ann, which I assumed was their daughter. Lucy’s early death at the age of 13 made me wonder what could’ve happened to such a young girl? How did this loss affect the family and the production of the farm? It was questions like these that really got me thinking of the past. History has some great stories to share. So I started to look further.

While doing some research I came across some genial records on Lucy Ann and found a match. Included in this record were Lucy’s parents, John Southard and Ann Whitmore, as well as her birthdate, July 25, 1828. The one thing that didn’t match up was the date of her death. The date listed here was Jan. 29, 1841 while the sign at the cemetery read June 29, 1840. Considering the burial stone was not in the best condition, I could understand the mistake. I couldn’t find any information on her death, but I do know John passed away three years later at the age of 44. I wonder if the deaths of Lucy and John were the result of some sort of illness. Whatever the cause, I assume John was also buried with his daughter at the cemetery. In 1884, at 83 years old, Anne’s death followed.

Both around the same age, John and Ann got married in 1826 while they were in their late 20s. Then gave birth to Lucy two years later. I also found out they had a son. Warren M. Southard was born Dec. 14, 1838 in Seaford, only two years before his sister passed away. Warren lived a long life and made it to 72 years old. Even though he outlived everyone in his family, Ann lived the longest. I wonder what her secret was? Warren’s wife, Harriet, had a good 50 or so years with him before his death.

Looking at a 1906 map, the cemetery was surrounded by land owned by David Bedell, William Fanshaw and Foster Smith. There was nothing recorded about the Southard farm on this map but there was a Mrs. G. B. Southard listed as a property owner just south of the cemetery. Could this be another family member? From what I have learned, Warren and Harriet didn’t have any children so I thought maybe she could be a sister of John or an in law. Who knows who the mysterious woman is? What we do know is that the Southard family lived and worked in Bellmore for a number of years. They have a history here and will be remembered by all thanks to the small memorial at Baldwin – Southard Cemetery.

The next time you pass this special place, think about how life used to be for the Southards. Wonder how they defeated their struggles and celebrated their achievements. Feel the earth beneath you and know that they lived glorious days and sad days standing on this same land. Remember that we are all connected. Time can make a difference but its the stories that keep us all alive. Holding on to memories, yet striving for a new view.

While my husband and I were visiting Sleepy Hollow a few years back, we explored Philipsburg Manor. I took a photo of this awesome canoe, Water Penny. I just loved the different wood tones and the design of its structure. The surroundings were amazingly beautiful as well with its saturated green tones and warm neutrals. You can create some really nice color palettes from this image.
