I’ve been hearing the term ‘new normal’ way too much lately. Let’s be honest, this is not our new normal. At least it’s not mine. I’d say it’s more of a temporary set of rules we are suggested to follow. Personally, I believe it’s a bit much but regardless of how you feel accepting this way of life is depressing. And I am all about being positive so it certainly doesn’t fit into MY normal. And it doesn’t have to. Because only you can make your life amazing and allowing negative shit to bring you down and drag you around is no good. I always remind myself that bad energy only attracts more of it. Putting good vibes out into the world and being positive will bring good things your way AND rise the vibration around you. It’s sort of like a mirror – you reflect what you’re feeling. So try to smile, be grateful and move forward in a way that is best for you. Feel the sunshine and flow with it. Chase it. Whatever makes you happy and brings you peace – keep doing it. You’re allowed and most certainly expected to. And anyone who will tell you different is probably miserable themselves so not sure you should be taking advice from them anyway. Just be kind and keep moving. Try to understand and accept, even when it’s hard. Be calm, even when it’s rough. And spread love, because the world around you truly needs it.

SPACE has always been something I needed. Whatever I was doing in my life I required the necessary space for myself to thrive. Whether I chose to write, reflect, create, dance, listen to music, sit in silence, go for a walk or drive, watch tv or a movie, etc… it didn’t matter. Within this space I was free. Isolating yourself from the world around you is healthy, acceptable and quite frankly, smart. We all need time for ourselves. It allows us to reflect, wonder, question, and rest. Not only rest our bodies but our mind as well. No one to answer to, no one to consider, nothing to tend to. It’s just you and space. That surely sounds nice, doesn’t it? It is.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The space I am currently creating around myself has been glorious. No drama. No bullshit. No negative energy. It’s pretty awesome. I seriously recommend you take a good look around and eliminate the things that annoy you, piss you off, or straight up drag you down. It’s not hard. There is a solution for everything. Whatever it is you must do, just do it. We all need to rise up in our own way. No one has the right to invade your space. No one. Exist peacefully and all will be good.

I spotted this big guy this afternoon before we headed out to my in laws, he was just hanging around. We got back a few hours later and I went out to water and he was still there. Except this time he was at the top and seemed to be in distress, as if he was stuck and couldn’t get down. Now I’m no bug expert but it really did seem as if he was in need of some help. I watched him for a bit while I watered to see if maybe he would fly away or walk down, something. But he didn’t. He just kept going in nervous circles at the top. I felt really bad and wanted to help. So I gave him a hand by holding one of my bamboo sticks (I use these as stakes) out by him so he could get on. He gladly did and started to walk along the stick towards me. I put it on the ground and he boot scooted away on the grass.

I know this may not seem like a big deal but it made me happy to help this beetle. I’ve never been one to like bugs, they are actually one of the very few things I’m kind of afraid of. But lately, especially since we have started our garden, I’ve gotten used to these little guys being around me more. The beetles, the slugs, the snails, the bees, the spiders, the butterflies, the praying mantis and all the strange looking bugs that live and visit our property daily… they are all special and important in their own way. I appreciate them all, even if some want to eat our veggies. Lol. I’m here to help them thrive as much as I can and give them a place to be free. And the fact that I’m getting more comfortable coexisting with them just proves that when you allow nature to be an integral part of your life and surround yourself with its beauty, magical things happen. Change happens. Evolution happens. You truly see how we are all connected, no matter how tiny something might be. And there is a huge lesson to be learned in that. I am so grateful for what the Earth teaches me. I am just so fucking grateful.

Life isn’t a competition. We all have unique talents and personalities and that’s what separates us from everyone else. When it comes to the design field, I’ve never felt I needed to be better than anyone else or that anyone was better than me. But at the same time I accepted that some could do certain things better than I could and that was fine. Still is. Artists are all on the same team and we should always support each other. We have a special job to do and that’s to bring more beauty to the world. We should not be competing with each other.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That being said – we must also know what it is that helps us stand out among the rest. Because we want to show potential clients how good we are at what we do and grow our business. It’s smart to focus on your best skills and market those the most so people who need those type of services can pick you out faster. And this allows for more experience, which in turn helps you to bloom even more beautifully.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s always been hard for me to choose a niche in the arts because I love to do so much in the field. Even when I was studying design I had a hard time deciding my major. It took me awhile but I finally graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design. This allowed me to take a bunch of fine art classes to strengthen my drawing and painting skills while also gaining knowledge in graphic arts and photography. I saw it as the best of both worlds. And even though I focus on marketing and branding, having the history of illustration, photography and creative writing on my side I find it’s very beneficial to my business to have a well rounded education in the arts. Not to mention, decades of professional experience in the design field. And this, plus my personality and work ethic, is what makes me stand out from the rest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So if your business needs an upgrade or you’re starting out fresh and you’re looking for a designer who is experienced, efficient, and easy to work with then contact me today and we can chat.
