The other day there was a beautiful rainbow in front of my house. It was right after rain had stopped, my husband was leaving to go the store and he told me to come outside. It was beautiful. I had to take a picture of it. This was the first time I stepped onto my porch and saw something that pretty so close to home. It made me smile.

Nature never ceases to amaze me. Everywhere you look, there is beauty to be seen. Even after a long storm, the air can turn into amazing colors and uplift your mood so quickly. It helps to remind you of how life has its ups and downs, but there will always be a positive that comes out of it. And yes, harsh winds and a relentless downpour can certainly change your mood for the worst. However, try to see beyond the darkness and there will be a light. And if you keep your head up and look even further, you may even see a rainbow.

Today is a windy and cold morning here on the island. There is a storm coming our way so the air is fresh and everything has a dewy look. I love how this weather makes all the trees, grass, and plants a more prominent green. When the beauty of nature is accented, it makes you see the world a little bit different.

I stepped outside my back door today to let my dogs out and just took in how pretty my yard looked. Every time I am back there, I appreciate it more and more. The fact that I am content with where I am in my life and where I have chosen to build a family, surely makes me happy. My past has brought a lot of things, but feeling content was not really on that list. Sure, at times, but as a whole I always wanted more or something new. I guess that is part of growing up.

I know perfection doesn’t really exist. People, relationships, careers, children, you name it, nothing is perfect. We all have our issues and deal with them in our own ways. I can definitely say my life isn’t perfect, but I am content with how it is and look forward to the future. Rather than always wanting to move and evolve at a fast pace, I can take day by day and see what what comes my way.

I think that if you sit back and think of all the good things you have, the beauty that surrounds you, and the people who love you {as well as the ones you love}, you will realize that things aren’t so bad. Contentment doesn’t mean you want to stay where you are forever. It just means you appreciate all you have and are happy with how far you’ve come. It’s a mighty good feeling.

Mixing it Up with Flea Market Finds

Being a lover of everything vintage, my home surely reflects the beauty of the old and the freshness of the new. Some may think its easy to throw a space like this together but it does take some thinking. Because you want there to be a cohesive look you have to arrange furniture and items in a way that they flow effortlessly. So when your eye moves around the room, there is a nice mix of all styles you love. Here are a few examples of some spaces that are great inspirations for this look.

This dining room is casual with a bit of class. The paneling on the walls give the space an upscale look while the blackboard paint makes it fun. The mix of vintage glass and accessories blends well with the wood furniture and neutral tones of the textiles.

Shabby chic and mid century design come together to create a space that is luxurious, feminine, and classic. The earthy elements and wood tones help ground the room while the antique mirrors help light find its way around this peaceful neutral space.

Bright, modern, and colorful, this space adds stylish interest to one side of the room. By using vintage benches as bookshelves, the unique accessories and books are displayed in a creative, yet smart way.

A little bit of glam and old world charm give this sitting room a rich look. The earthy and calm color palette play off of the shabby chic style, which also adds a comfortable layer to the space.

The traditional style of this living room includes earthy elements, such as the stone fireplace. With the addition of the vintage bottle collection and small rustic touches, a nice mix of old and new is created.

Modern and contemporary style with a few vintage pieces keeps this space streamlined and true to the aesthetic while softening up the lines a bit.

A little bit of country, rustic flair, and traditional style create a comfortable and airy space for guests to relax. The few pops of color are enough to add interest and freshness while the textures give the room the warmth it needs from all the cool neutrals. Bright and cozy live in harmony here.

Bomobob’s work is dreamy, whimsy and always seems to bring you back to childhood. I have featured him before but planned on sharing more of his photographs in my palettes. This Canadian artist has a keen eye for beauty and showcases his vision through color, fantasy and unique perspective. Some of the main reasons I love his work.

The photo featured here, Bokeh Go Round, has a vintage feel and childlike charm. Who doesn’t love carnivals? I certainly do! The colors in this piece are soft and feminine with a mature sensibility. The blues and purples provide a backdrop of cloudy pillows and fluttering hearts while the carrousel stands strong adding interest and character. This is one of my favorites for sure.

This palette can be used for any children’s party as well as spring weddings. Even having a fall wedding would work as long as you stick with pastels. The autumn scenery would make a beautiful background as well. These natural toned hues are pretty enough for a girl, yet masculine enough for any groom.
