Oh, do I love paper. Even when I was a child I had a special relationship with it. I loved stationary and would always want my Mother to buy me new pads and notebooks, just so I can have plenty of paper to write and draw on. Today, I simply adore it.

Being an artist you learn how to appreciate paper more. Most of my handmade crafts are made with it as well so I have used more as the years passed. Searching for unique patterns and designs is easy thanks to all the talented people out there creating such beautiful work. From tissue paper to wallpaper, there is something to be found for everyone.

Here are some cool finds I came across upon my searches that I would like to share with you. Get lost in the magnificent glory of all these fun and gorgeous items and let them inspire you, like they inspired me.

Last Days explores the final days of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Writer and director Gus Van Sant truly examines the feeling of isolation in the world with this film. From beginning to end, the darker more rustic tones of nature set the stage for sadness, weakness and the psychological sense of strength that is showcased at the end of the film when the character takes his own life. The rich colors of the cooler seasons embrace the story as it unfolds to its realistic and haunting finale.

Theater Clouds is Canadian artist, Elly Mackay. The minute I saw her work I was in love. Her pieces are delicate, mesmerizing and beautiful. The process in which she works is sort of like creating a play or film but in stills. She uses ink for the drawings on yupo paper, cuts them out and layers them in an assemblage of wonderful little scenes. With the addition of lighting, these dreamy images are born.

Mackay studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where she received her BFA. She is married with two children and spends most of her time creating these amazing pieces for us all to see. Thanks Elly!

The palette’s from which her work are created are mostly muted tones that have a romantic feel to them. They are great inspiration for weddings and baby showers, not to mention a calm and meditative interior space.

Check out her 2011 interview on Etsy to learn more about her process.

Blue Valentine is a film about love and how time can change a person. The couple who the film focuses on fell in love at a young age and then got married and had a child. As they get older, the woman slowly grew apart from her husband while he grew to love her more. It’s a sad story that is told through a muted and neutral palette which really help set the tone for the cold and distant feeling that is being felt by the characters.
