Magnolia Rouge2

I am in love with the reinvented Magnolia Rouge. If there is one place you want to go to for wedding inspiration, this is it. The magazine never ceases to disappoint. From beautiful photographs and unique events to loads of information, Kate Holland of Ruby and Willow Design Studio presents a skillfully designed quarterly every bride needs to see. I am a huge fan for sure.

I just looked over the spring issue and of course, I’m in awe of how nice it came out. I wanted to share my favorite elements to help inspire all you couples out there who are planning your special day. Even if you are not getting married or helping someone else plan theirs, there are tons of ideas and looks you can pull from these pages. Enjoy!

Now that spring is here, I can’t stop thinking of our vegetable gardens my husband and I plan to set up this year. Being able to grow what we eat is truly amazing to me. Having enough to share is even better.

I live right next to a nursery, which I love, and the other day I went over to take a look around at their selection so far. It was nice to be around all the garden goodies and flowers, especially since this kitchen renovation has been taking over my life lately. To take a break and be with nature for a little bit was seriously needed. It also helped me get in the mode of planning a few pretty areas around the house. To start I bought a few packs of flowers and planted them in pots for the backyard for some color. Already it brightened up the space.

Our cherry trees in the back are finally blooming, something I have been impatiently waiting for. They are so pretty with their little white flowers. We have three which came with the house and I love them. I like to go back there with the dogs and relax sometimes. It’s so nice to be able to do that on my own property.

This photo was taken a few years ago while my husband and I were visiting Connecticut. We passed a garden and I had to take pictures. I look at this and remind myself that our gardens will soon come. The beauty in all fresh food and herbs will shine brightly in my backyard and I will truly be one happy girl.

My husband and I are finally fully renovating our kitchen. It has been a little over a year we are in the house and feel its time to take on the project. What was done before was only temporary until we had the funds and the time to get it done so you can imagine how excited I am to see my dream kitchen alive.

This is the first space I’ve designed from scratch and have really enjoyed the process. I want an authentic vintage kitchen so collecting items for the space has taken some time. We started a few months ago, visiting antique shops every weekend until we collected everything we were looking for. The whole room will be free standing pieces, nothing is installed or connected to the walls like cabinetry would be. So finding exactly what we wanted and making sure we had enough storage space was a task all in itself.

We were lucky to have found the perfect pieces at great prices, which helped out a lot considering our budget wasn’t big. Everything has been painted the same color to bring cohesion to the space. Whites and creams will grace the room beautifully. Thanks to Ikea, we were able to get a butcher block countertop at an affordable price and the sink cabinet is being built from scratch, another design I am excited about. When you can’t find what you want, build it!

We purchased wood planks for the ceiling and painted them white as well. And because of our budget, we chose laminate planks for the floor in a nice neutral, honey tone. The new schoolhouse lighting I chose will truly bring the vintage charm to the space and the large piece of art we had custom framed will look gorgeous. Every detail was thought of when it came to this renovation. Floor plans were drawn, measurements were taken, and I considered every inch of the room so we can really maximize the space. I’d have to say, its the most dedication I’ve had for a project in a long time and I know it will all pay off.

So for this inspiration photo friday, I wanted to share my inspirations for our kitchen renovation, since this project has been a focus for some time now. I looked to these and saw elements I loved. Then made them work for our space and combined them in way that worked with our budget. I feel its really important to have a starting point, some kind of inspiration to work off of. And these truly helped my creativity and determination.

We are currently in the middle of the process and are ready for demo. Everything is getting ripped out, walls and all. Besides my uncle helping us with the drywall, Dan and I are doing this all by ourselves and we couldn’t be more excited. We are DIY all the way and when its all finished, we can look back and be proud of what we accomplished. It just proves that with true dedication, you can do anything. Check back for my before and after photos soon as well as a detailed post about the project.

I have always been animal lover. Having various pets as a child, growing up around them was normal for me. I loved going to the zoo and watching movies about them and when I actually got to pet them and interact, it made my day. It really is no surprise I would be a vegetarian one day, it was just a matter of learning the facts and opening my eyes to what is really happening in this world.

It’s now going on four years and I am so happy I live this way. It has truly helped me to be more open and loving, even more than I was before, and pushed me to try new foods and healthier choices. The main thing this lifestyle has given me is the ability to love animals and the Earth much greater than I ever have. And I believe it will just get stronger as the years go by.

I just wanted to share this awesome feeling and hope to inspire all of you to appreciate the natural world around you as well as all the beautiful creatures living on it. My two dogs, Olive and Jenny, remind me everyday how amazing animals really are. They are my sunshine in the morning and my moon at night. They are loyal, loving, and very sweet. Not to mention, unique in their own ways. I just don’t know what I do without them.

My plan for the future is to have a small farm so I can give a few awesome animals a good home. I would love to have chickens, pigs, and maybe even a cow or two. Goats are pretty cool as well, I’m sure they would bring a little adventure to the group. A tiny pony would be a bonus! And of course I would love to have more dogs. If it wasn’t for my husband, I would have more now. I just love animals so much, I can’t resist wanting to take care of them and making sure they are safe and happy.

So, happy inspiration photo friday! I ask you all to open your eyes and hearts to the world of animals and really see them for what they are, amazing individuals who are just as important as we are. Imagine the world without them for just one minute. To me, that’s hell. And since we are surrounded by such incredible creatures, this surely must be heaven.
