Film Review: Mad Max: Fury Road

I finally watched this film a few months ago after it came out on DVD and it was everything and more of what I expected. Action packed, insane effects, and fight scenes, and amazing cinematography. I loved the female perspective, such strong characters. Tough chicks never get old, it was awesome.

Hardy played Max well, always a fan of his work. Theron rocked it as usual. You’re on the edge of your seat pretty much the whole film. I loved it. A story of hope, courage, and lots of crazy shit, lol.

The Avengers is an action packed film starring the best of the best from the Marvel world. With the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Black Widow, its awesome to see all on one screen together kicking ass and saving the planet. Each of the characters are interesting in their own right so to have them work together was surely a treat.

It starts by Nick Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D, contacting each character to help out with the problem at hand, which is to stabilize the Tesseract and figure out what to do with Loki, Thor’s evil twin who has now entered Earth through a wormhole the Tesseract mistakenly opened. Eventually, Loki gets captured but does find a way to escape, so the adventure continues.

The wormhole ends up being a huge problem because what lies in Asgard on the other side, is able to come through to Earth. So, the Avengers get to work to battle it out and close the wormhole for good, all within the confines of New York City. It’s a majestic and  explosive ending for sure.

The color palette is what we know of the characters and their outfits along with city neutrals and nature inspired hues. The five elements are surely explored in the film. Expect to see bold and bright colors that are weighted down by earthy grays and browns. A nice even playing field for pigment to shine.

Sucker Punch is a film about a girl, Babydoll, who gets sent away to a mental institution by her stepfather so she doesn’t share the truth about her sister’s death. To help her cope with the situation, she creates another world for herself where her plans to escape are the main objective. The girls at the institution are all there against their will and forced to entertain guests in rather inappropriate ways. They all stick together to help make the plan happen, before Babydoll gets a lobotomy.

Based in the 1960s, the film is an array of colors, both light and dark. With this palette and the four items Babydoll needs to collect to escape, you are led through a fantastical journey of amazement, war, strength, and fear. Both worlds, reality and fantasy, are given codes of color to organize sequence and allow the view to feel the intensity of each one.

The story ends in bitter sweetness but its certainly a film you must see. It’s exciting, wild, sexy, and intense. I can’t refuse a movie where women kick ass, and this one was a sure winner for me.

Originally written by Roald Dahl, James is stuck living with his mean aunts when his parents pass away. After some time, he meets a little man outside who gives him a secret potion. Unfortunately, James spills it all over the peach tree by accident but to his surprise the peach brings him a way to escape, explore and find happiness.

With all his little insect friends, he travels the high seas to find his way to New York City. Their journey is full of adventure and amazement. The color scheme used is full of life and holds a childlike feel, taking us all on the exciting trip with James we will never forget.
